Who We Are

The mission of WIC is to be a dynamic congregation who relate to one another in all their diversity, joining together to engage in ministry to impact Washington, DC with the reality and relevancy of Christ. We purpose to bring together people of different national, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, and equip them for ministry within their circle of influence in such a way as to affect our families, community, country, and world.

Unity in Christ

Joanna & RichardIn a world where nations are splintering along cultural and linguistic lines, Washington International Church is a model of unity and diversity. We are united by our love for Jesus Christ. "He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." (Colossians 1:17)

From All Corners of the World

In addition to English, most of us also speak one or more other languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, French, Tagalog, and Russian. Some of us are living temporarily in DC as diplomats or students; others have immigrated and have made our new home here; some of us have even lived here in the DC area all our lives. Some of us have arrived in the U.S.A. recently, others were born in the U.S. to immigrant parents or came here as children.

Granny Sue with BabyLove: Fluently Spoken Here

Most importantly, we speak the language of love. All of us know what it's like to be "strangers in a strange land." Maybe that's why WIC is one of the friendliest and most caring churches around. Many of us are thousands of miles from family members. So church members share together in the joys and sorrows of new births, marriage, illness, and, yes, death. Whoever you are, or wherever you come from, we welcome you to our family.

An Urban Church

We are also an urban church. In a time when so many churches have fled to the suburbs, we seek to serve the city. The needs are great--both spiritual and physical. Washington, DC is a city of extreme wealth and extreme poverty. It's a city where power is sought after. We offer very little in the way of political power, but we do offer the gospel of Jesus Christ: "...the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes." (Romans 1:16)

The Christian and Missionary Alliance

We are part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA), a worldwide association of Christian churches that was started more than 100 years ago by the famous missionary statesman, A.B. Simpson, in New York City. Simpson, a Presbyterian minister, left a pastorate in a large church to pursue his vision of uniting churches in prayer and sending missionaries. His vision ultimately became the Christian and Missionary Alliance. The C&MA has always emphasized missions, is recognized as an innovative and effective sender of missionaries, and actually has more churches overseas than it does in the USA. The C&MA holds the same basic beliefs and doctrines as most evangelical churches. Read our statement of faith.
